“冬”という季節だけでなく、４月、５月と春になっても寒いが続くニューヨークの人達にとって、二度と寒い日がぶり返さない６月以降の本格的な夏のシーズンは、まさに“楽園”と言っても過言ではない日々。テラスやガーデンのあるカフェやレストランなどで食事やお茶を楽しんだり、休日にはわざわざ公園などにお弁当を持ってピクニックをしたりと、できるだけこの季節をエンジョイするかのように外での時間を楽しみます。そんなニューヨークを象徴するかのような、ニューヨークの夏の風物詩のひとつでもあるのが、この『CableHBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival（HBO ブライアント・パーク・フィルム・フェスティバル／ブライアント・パーク映画祭）』です。この『ブライアント・パーク映画祭』は、HBOが主催する野外映画会で、ミッドタウンの中心にあるブライアント・パークで、毎年6月から8月にかけての毎週月曜日に、大型スクリーンにて映画が無料で上映されるイベントです。その選抜される作品は、“ブライアント・パーク名画館”と言われるような、往年の名作ばかりが公開され、今年の目玉は、最終日にあたる8月17日上映の『Close Encounters of the Third Kind（未知との遭遇）』。上映開始は、完全に日没する夜９時前後からですが、その広い芝生の上にできるだけいい場所を取るために、早い人は、夕方5時から行ってシートを敷き、準備してきたディナー用のお弁当やデザートなどを、ワインなど一緒に、夏の夕暮れから夜にかけての時間帯を楽しみます。

今年の７月、８月の上映作品は次のとおり。夏の心地よい風に吹かれながら、大画面で往年の名作を堪能してみませんか？
