2009年4月29日、東京は原宿の明治通り沿いに“日本第一号店”として堂々とオープンした『Forever 21（フォーエバー21）』。原宿の明治通り沿いといっても、そこは、昨年11月のオープンが話題を呼んだ衣料専門店チェーン『H&M（エイチ・アンド・エム）原宿店』のすぐ隣というから驚き！　一見、同じような規模に見えるものの、『H&M原宿店』の4フロア1500平米に対し、『フォーエバー21』は5フロア1749平米と、広さの面ではまずは群を抜いている様子。日本では、雑誌でおなじみのファッションモデルやセレブリティーからの前評判もあったことで、オープン前からその注目度は高く、オープン当日はもちろんのこと、二ヶ月経とうとしている現在でさえ、ビルの前では長蛇の列ができるほどの加熱ぶり。そんな、今一番注目度の高い『フォーエバー21』は、もともとはロサンザルスに拠点を置くファッション・ストアのチェーン店で、現在では世界10ヶ国に460店舗をかまえる巨大チェーン店で、ニューヨークでは、どのエリアへもアクセスに便利なユニオン・スクエアにあり、こちらも常に幅広い年齢層の女性客で賑わっています。

そんな『フォーエバー21』の最大の魅力といえば、やはり価格帯の安さと着やすさにあり！　ジャケットでも30ドル代、パーティーシーンでも大活躍してくれるドレスや、ラメやスパンコールのきいたトップスなども30ドル代、１シーズンで着潰しても後悔の無いようなタンクやTシャツ、チュニックも、１枚なんと６ドル代からあるという激安ぶりに加え、これまでの“激安”イメージの強かったヨーロッパ発の『H&M』よりもモード色が薄く、ロサンザルス発らしい、カジュアルさとポップさが前面に出ているために“可愛い、コーディネートがしやすい、安いから思いきったスタイリングも楽しめる”、という点。日本でもニューヨークでも、国は違っても、もはや「ただ安いだけ」ではオシャレは楽しめない、ということですね！
