1年12ヶ月のうちの、半年以上が「寒い」と感じる季節のニューヨーク。とはいえ、日本の浴槽のように浴槽（バスタブ）が深いわけでもないので、お風呂で体を芯から温める、というのはなかなか至難の技……。また日本なら、サウナや岩盤浴が比較的どこにでもありますが、ニューヨークではそうもいかず……、というのは大間違い。ここニューヨークにも、日本ほど数はないにしろ、ニューヨーカーに人気のサウナが存在するんです。それが、この『Russian & Turkish Baths（ロシアン・アンド・ターキッシュ・バス）』。人種のるつぼと言われるニューヨークのなかでも、とくにボヘミアン文化が色濃く残るイースト・ビレッジには、イタリア、フランス、ウクライナなどの飲食店やコミュニティーが存在しており、そのなかにはロシアも含まれています。その伝統的なロシアとターキー（トルコ）の文化を取り入れたサウナ＆バスが『ロシアン・アンド・ターキッシュ・バス』なのです。

なんと1892年創業という老舗のサウナ＆バスは、1日の料金が30ドル（５回は120ドル、10回は210ドル）で時間はどれだけいても自由。店内には、巨大な岩壁の炉で造られた正真正銘本物の“ロシアンサウナ”、ユーカリーやラベンダーの葉の香りでリラックス効果も高い白いタイル張りのターキッシュサウナのほか、アロマセラピー・ルーム、アイスコールド・プール、スエディッシュ・サウナなど、ヨーロッパの代表的なサウナの数々のほか、30分45ドルからのスペシャル・トリートメントの“スエディッシュ・ロシアン・マッサージ”や、死海の泥や死海のバスソルトを使ったトリートメントなど（35ドルから）も受けることができます。また、館内には飲み物や軽食がとれるフードコーナーもあるので、たっぷり時間をかけて過ごしてみることをおすすめします。
