４月といえば、新たに社会人になった人や、転勤や移動などで心機一転した人も多いでしょう。そんななか、この季節を新しい迎え、スーツやシャツを新調した人もたくさんいると思います。そこで今回ご紹介するのは、ニューヨークのメンズウエアのお店の『LS Men’s Clothing（LS・メンズクロージング）』。ただし、ここは普通のメンズウエアを取り扱っているショップではなく、オーダーメイドでシャツやスーツを作るテーラーなのです。家族経営で45年もの間、テーラーを営んでいる人気店で、その証拠に『LS・メンズクロージング』の顧客リストには、ニューヨークデザイナーを代表とするラルフ・ローレンやH.フリーマンなどの名前もあるほどです。

オーダーメイド、と聞くと、とてつもなく高いもの、と想像しがちですが、考えようによっては、そんなことはぜんぜんありません。スーツといえば、特に男性は毎日着るものであり、人によっては、普段着よりも長い時間着用している人も
多いはず。そのスーツを、しっかりと自分の体を採寸することによって仕立て上げたスーツだと、着ているうちに芯と生地が馴染み、襟の返り方もきれいに返って肩にしっくり馴染んでくることで、そのシルエットがスッキリと決まって見えるため、既成の吊るしのスーツを着ても「なんか格好がつかない……」ということがありません。また、スーツに限らず、Yシャツやドレスシャツなども、“身体に馴染む”ということは、“着心地が良い”ということに繋がり、つまりは、長時間着用していても疲れない、というのも事実なんだそう。
