犬派のあなたも、猫派のあなたも、動物好きな人なら、飼っているペット用品だけでなく、自分の洋服や身の回りの小物にまで、犬や猫など、自分の好きな動物をモチーフにしたアイテムを欲しがったりしてしまうもの……。たとえばそれが、ペットと同じ犬種や、同じような色柄の猫であったりしたら、余計に欲しくなるものです。

そこで今回は、そんな世界中のペットラバーから愛されているアーチスト、Eric Ginsburg（エリック・ギンスバーグ）さんをご紹介します。エリックさんは、ニューヨーク生まれのアーチストで、NYU（ニューヨーク大学）でアートを学んだあと、さらにコロンビア大学でアートの修士学位を修得した、まさに、筋金入りのニューヨーク・アーティスト！　そんなエリックさんが描くのは、エリックさん自身が愛して止まない動物たちの姿。それは、主に犬と猫がほとんどで、顔が全面的にアップとなった、まるで人間の肖像画のような作品。なかには、エリックさん自身が飼っているパグや、近所の猫、街の小鳥が描かれたものなどもあって、絵でありながらも、まるで実際の生活をかいま見ているような気持ちにさせられるから不思議です。

エリックさんの作品は、ニューヨークを中心に、アメリカは東海岸で主に個展が開かれていますが、とくに、大勢のドッグラバー（愛犬家）たちから親しまれているのが、エリックさんの描く犬達をモチーフにしたアパレルや日用雑貨の数々。Tシャツやタンクトップなどはもちろんのこと、犬用のTシャツやマグカップ、カレンダー、下着、バッグ、アルバムなどなど、じつにバラエティーに富んだアイテムがそろっているので、ついついたくさん買い込んでしまいそう！　オンラインショップはアメリカ国内発送だけなので、ニューヨークに旅行に来た際に、滞在先に届くようにオーダーするのもいいですね。
