ニューヨークへ観光で訪れたとき、みなさんなら、どんな物をお土産に選びますか？　Tシャツやイエローキャブのオモチャなど、ニューヨークそのものを象徴する小物はたくさんありますが、まさに「これこそニューヨークでしか味わえないものなんだよ！」という、ニューヨーカーからも愛されている“ニューヨークの味”をお土産にするのも素敵ですよね。ここでご紹介する『Fat Witch Bakery（ファット・ウィッチ・ベーカリー）』こそ、まさにニューヨークを代表する味のひとつとして、地元ニューヨーカーからも、また観光客のお土産品としても人気の高いアイテムのひとつです。『ファット・ウィッチ・ベーカリー』は、ブラウニーの専門店。ブラウニーとはアメリカ生まれのお菓子で、ビスケットよりしっとりとしていて、スポンジケーキ寄り重厚感のある、チョコレートやナッツでできた焼き菓子のこと。仕事からくたくたになって帰ってきた人が疲れてそのまま眠ってしまったあとに、お部屋を片付けてくれる妖精、“ブラウニー”がこのお菓子と同じ色をしていたことから、この名前がついたといわれています。そんなこともあってか、この『ファット・ウィッチ・ベーカリー』のトレードマークは可愛らしい魔法使い。見た目にも可愛すぎる『ファット・ウィッチ・ベーカリー』のブラウニーは、キャラメルやカプチーノ、ウォールナッツなど計８種類のフレーバーがあり、普通のブラウニーより何倍もそれらの違った食感と味を楽しむことができます（重さ各3.5oz／2.75ドル）。もともとのニューヨーカーからの人気から飛び火して、口コミで人気が広がった『ファット・ウィッチ・ベーカリー』のブラウニーは、やがて、世界各国から訪れる観光客の“人気ニューヨーク土産”にもなり、今では、可愛いオリジナルロゴの入ったギフト用のボックス（14.50ドル〜50ドル）もできたほどです！
