バレンタイン・デーといえば、日本では”女性が男性にチョコレートをあげる日”という位置づけになっていますが、欧米では、愛する人に愛の言葉や感謝の気持ちを伝える日として、チョコレートやキャンディー、薔薇などと一緒に贈る日となっています。とくに男性の場合は、女性へバレンタイン・デーの贈り物としてジュエリーを贈ることが多いため、この時期になると、ジュエリー・ショップに男性の姿をよく見かけます。そこでご紹介したのが、いまニューヨークで注目したい、大人のためのジュエリー・ショップ『Doyle&Doyle Jewelry（ドイル・アンド・ドイル）』です。

『ドイル・アンド・ドイル』は、お洒落なレストランやユニークなカフェなどが密集するロウワー・イーストサイドで、その業種や美術館のような洗練された外観からも、ちょっぴり異色感のあるジュエリー・ショップ。ここでオーナーとデザイナーを務めるのは、エリザベスさんとパメラさんの姉妹。もともと骨董品や宝石などに興味があったエリザベスさんは、さらに宝石の知識を深めるためにF.I.T.でジュエリー・デザインを学び、パメラさんもまた宝石に魅了された女性のひとりでありながら、”宝石は美しいだけでなく、それぞれがいろんな役割をもっている”という考え方を持っている……、そんな姉妹が2000年にオープンしたのがこの『ドイル・アンド・ドイル』です。気軽に使い回せるジュエリーというよりも、自分のファッションや自身のアピールするところをきちんと知っている、そんな大人の女性が魅了されるようなデザインがそろうラインには、すべてダイアモンドをはじめ、サファイアやパール、ルビーなどの石と、14K～18Kの各色のゴールドが使われています。ジャンクではない、本物志向のアイテムは、まさにバレンタイン・ギフトとしてもぴったりですね。
