ニューヨークの冬といえば、すぐに“とにかく寒い”とイメージされる人も多いかもしれませんが、きーんと張りつめた外気のなかを散歩するのもそれほど悪いものでもありません。とくに11月下旬から1月上旬のマンハッタンは、街中がきれいにクリスマス・ディスプレイとイルミネーションで飾られていて、その澄んだ空気のなかでひと際輝きを放ち、とてもロマンチックです。そんななかで、この時期のお楽しみはなんといってもクリスマスツリー。ニューヨークと言えば、世界的にも有名なロックフェラー・センター・クリスマスツリーがありますが、マンハッタン内にある有名なクリスマスツリーはロックフェラー・センターだけではありません。ニューヨーカーのなかには、毎年、お気に入りのクリスマスツリーの点灯式に出席している人もいるほどです。では、そんなロックフェラー・センター以外の有名なツリーをご紹介しましょう。

まずは、オペラやバレエの劇場、コンサートホールで有名な『Lincoln center（リンカーン・センター）＠70 Lincoln Center Plaza, 9th Floor
New York, NY 10023／212-581-3774』。12月1日の点灯式には、バンド演奏やパフォーマンスのイベントが行われました。ツリーには楽器をかたどったオーナメントが飾られ、全体的にちょっと大人っぽくゴージャスなのが魅力的。
また、意外とファンの多いこの『NYSE Euronext（NY証券取引所）＠11 Wall Street New York, NY 10005／212-656-3000』のツリー。周辺には、エルメスやティファニーなどのブランドショップがあるのでショッピングにも便利で、見物客も意外と少ないので穴場的ツリー・スポット。ここからほど近い『South Street Sseaport（サウス・ストリート・シーポート）＠Fulton & South Sts, Pier17』のクリスマスツリーは、港をバックに古い石畳に大きくそびえ、とってもロマンチックです。最後は、子供たちに大人気、大人もため息が出るような折り紙のオーナメントで飾られた『The American Museum of Natural History (アメリカ自然史博物館)＠79 Street And Central Park West New York, NY 10024／212-769-5100』。恐竜や動物、また人魚やユニコーンなどの架空の動物までが折り紙で作られ、見る人の目を楽しませてくれます。
