ニューヨーク１日市内観光 ～マンハッタンの見所満載の人気ツアー～

“アメリカでもっとも有名なクリスマスツリー”、といわれているロックフェラー・センター敷地内にあるクリスマス・ツリー。ロックフェラー・センターといえば、言わずと知れたニューヨークを象徴する建築物でもあり、また観光のメッカでもあります。大富豪のジョン・D・ロックフェラーによって、マンハッタンの中心部ともいえる48番街と51番街の1939年に建てられた、22エーカーの土地にそびえる高さ259m、70階建てのビルディングです。夏はカフェテラスになっている広場は、冬はスケートリンクになり、これもニューヨークのかかせない冬の風物詩となっています。

毎年この時期になると、ロックフェラー・センターでは、このクリスマスツリーの準備が始まり、点灯式のイベントには、観光客はもちろんのこと、地元のニューヨーカーも大勢詰めかけ、アメリカの主要テレビ局のすべての中継のほか、他国のテレビ局からも取材撮影が入るほど盛大に行われます。その点灯式が、今年は12月3日（木曜日）に行われました。今年、この“全米一有名なクリスマスツリー”に選ばれたのは、ニュージャージー州はハミルトンのTree King nurseryで育った、72フィート、重さは8トン、77歳のもみの木が選ばれました。この木のオーナーは、Bill Varanyakさん。自分の木が選ばれたことを大変喜んでいて、ちなみにこの木の名前は「ミラクル」だそう。

ツリーのトップに、キラキラとスワロフスキーのクリスタルを輝かせながら、ニューヨークの冬の澄み切った夜空に浮かぶこのツリーは、2009年1月9日までここに飾られています。時間帯は、毎日夕方5時30分から夜11時30分まで。クリスマスの当日は、24時間点灯されているので存分にロマンチックな気分に浸って下さい。
