【解説】
この演目、題名だけを聞くとホラー系の内容かな、と思いがちですが、とんでもない。実はこの公演、最初から最後まで観客を笑いの渦に巻き込んでくれる新感覚のホラー・コメディー・ミュージカルなんです！
監督は『喜劇王』としても知られている米国の映画監督兼脚本家・俳優のメル・ブルックスと、彼の前回のブロードウェイ作品『プロデューサーズ』や、その他『アニー』、『ヘアースプレー』などを手掛けている作家のトーマス・ミーハン。メル・ブルック氏はこれまで数々の映画やテレビ番組を手掛け、トニー賞やアカデミー脚本賞、その他エミー賞やゴールデングローブ賞を受賞しています。
出演者も豪華で世界トップクラスの演技と歌で観客を魅了します。ショーの間中、観客は笑いっぱなし！！場面展開が速く、途中火花の演出や感動の場面、最後には意外な結末が待っています！
アメリカならではのジョークや演出で、ニューヨークにいる事を改めて実感させてくれる一作。動きも多いショーなので英語が不安な方も雰囲気を楽しんで頂けますが、事前にこの映画版を見たりストーリーを調べたりして、少し内容を把握して行くとより細かな演出を理解出来、２倍楽しめる事でしょう。

【あらすじ】
物語は1974年にヒットしたメル・ブルック監督の本作映画をもとに作られており、主演俳優ロジャー・バートが演じる医大講師フレデリック・フランケンシュタインと笑いを惹き立ててくれるクリストファー・フィツフェラルド演じるイゴーやショーで重要な役割を担っているシュラー・ヘンズレイ演じるモンスターとの絡みを中心にジョークが飛び出す他、友情や恋愛なども描かれています。内容はフレデリックが、亡くなった曽祖父の遺言により、トランシルヴァニアにある屋敷を受け継ぐことになり、そこで見つけた祖父が死体を甦らせる実験をしていた時の記録をもとに、モンスターを作るところから始まります。実験は成功したものの・・・その後の場面展開が見所です！
