1924年、セオドア・ルーズベルト大統領に敬意を表してオープンした老舗ホテル『THE ROOSEVELT HOTEL NEW YORK（ザ・ルーズベルトホテル・ニューヨーク）』。
正座をあしらった天井図が有名なグランドセントラル駅まで徒歩1分、マディソン街と45丁目の角に建つ好立地条件のこのホテルは、
ミッドタウン・イーストのスーペリアクラス・ホテルとして昔から日本の旅行者にも親しまれてきましたが、歴史が感じられる重厚感と同時に、どこか古びたイメージが拭いきれない部分もあり、改装工事が行われ、現在では、新しくくつろぎやすい空間に生まれ変わっています。生まれ変わった『ザ・ルーズベルトホテル・ニューヨーク』で、エントランスを入ってまず目を惹くのは大理石のロビーと彫刻の施された天井。イタリアのルネッサンス様式で古きよき時代を偲ばせるエレガントで格調高い独特な雰囲気を醸し出ています。
客室数は52室のスイートルームを含む全1015室という大型のこのホテルは、無駄なものが一切無い、完全に“居心地のいい滞在”にスポットがあてらてれいるだけに、ほどよい広さの客室は、落ちついたトーンとインテリアでまとめられ、バスローブ、スリッパとセキュリティボックスのほか、必要最低限のアメニティーはしっかり完備されているのがうれしい。また、全体の施設には、ゆったりしたソファーが数台おかれている、くつろぎのラウンジやレストラン、フィットネスセンター、24時間営業のビジネスセンターなどがあり、観光だけでなく、ビジネスにもしっかり対応できるようになっています。
また、このホテルは、よく映画の撮影場所として使われることで知られているのが特徴で、その
代表作には、スティーブン・キング作のホラー映画『1408』やジェニファー・ロペス主演のラブストーリー『Maid in Manhattan』などがあります。じつは、意外と身近なところに映画の舞台があるというのも、ニューヨークを楽しむひとつのポイントかもしれません。
