ニューヨークといえばファッションのメッカ、と連想する人も多いほど、ニューヨークとファッションのかかわり合いは、非常に深いものがあります。なかでも、毎年、２月と９月に行われる、世界が注目するファッション・ウィークでは、ラルフ・ローレンやダナ・キャラン、マーク・ジェイコブスなどの大御所ニューヨーク・デザイナーだけでなく、次世代のニューヨークを代表する新鋭デザイナーへの注目度は非常に高いものです。実際にこのニューヨークには、大御所ニューヨーク・デザイナーたちを世に送り出したことで世界的にも有名な「PERSON’S SCHOOL OF DESIGN」や「F.I.T.」などのファッションやアパレル関連専門の大学などもり、アメリカ国内はもちろんのこと、日本も含め、多くの国からファッションを学びに留学する人もたくさんいます。そこで注目したいのが、この『The Market NYC（ザ・マーケット・エヌワシー）』。ここは、一件のストアの形態ではなく、それこそ、上であげた学校を卒業したばかり、または在学中の人達のほか、普通の会社員だったけれども趣味で自分で洋服を作っていたら趣味が興じて会社を辞め、ファッションデザイナーになった、などの、まったく個性的で新しい感性を持った新人デザイナーがたちが、自分達のアイテムを発表する場です。エリアに一歩足を踏み入れた瞬間は、まるでフリーマーケットのような雑多な感じがするのですが、落ち着いてひとつひとつのブースを見て歩くと、その洗練された雰囲気に圧倒されそうになっていくから不思議です。

ここには、洋服のほか、靴やバッグ、ベルトなどのアクセサリーののほか、ジュエリーなどもあるので、トータルで欲しいもの、似合うものを手に入れることができる、というのが大きな利点。しかも、大手のデザイナーズ・ブランドとは異なり、“自分だけの一点物”にもである、というのが最高の魅力です。今なら、4月13日までの毎週末、午前11時から夜7時までの期間、冬物のセールが行われています。早めに出かけて、お気に入りを安くゲットしてください！
