タイ料理といえば、「辛い、酸っぱい、甘い」が三 位一体となった料理として有名ですが、ニューヨークのような都会でいただこうとすると、参考にしたいグルメ誌には、タイ宮廷料理をメインとしたレストラン が多く、なかなか“本場”の庶民の味やプライスを探し得ないことが多いのが現実。そこでお薦めしたいのが、『Pam Real Thai Encore（パム・リアル・タイ・アンコール）』。観光名所や劇場の多いポートオーソリティーからほど近い場所にあるため、ロケーションも絶好のうえ、 このエリアにしては激安でおなかいっぱいになれるレストランは、なかなかお目にかかれません。ここでは、バンコックで長年料理人として腕を振るってきた女性シェフが、本場そのままの味を提供しながらも、例え ば、世界三大スープとして有名なトム・ヤム・クンが、3.95ドル～、シーフードがたっぷり入ったタイの代表的なサラダ、ヤム・ウン・センは5.95ド ルと、かなりリーズナブルなのがうれしいかぎり。また、９種類あるタイカレーは、まずはカレーの種類を選び、具は肉類ならチキン、牛、豚肉のうちからどれ か選んで7ドル、またシーフードならエビかイカを選んで9.75ドル、また、シーフードミックスなら9.95ドルと、安いくておいしいだけでなく、食べ方 のバリエーションが自分の好みでカスタマイズできるのも、また楽しみのひとつです。メイン料理においても、一番高い金額のもので12.95ドルとバリエーション豊か。スティッキーライス、スチームドライスなどと、カレーもメインも、どれも素材にあったごはんと一緒にいただくのがおすすめ。

ドリンクは、香辛料や香味野菜のきいたお料理とよくあうタイのシンハビールのほか、日本のサッポロ、アサヒもあり、バーからカクテルもだしてもらえます。食 後には、タイ特有のアイスコーヒーやアイスティー、また20種類ちかくもあるデザートも、食事の仕上げとして是非めしあがってみてください。
