『アイバンラーメン』は京王線「芦花公園」北口から徒歩2分。塩・しょう油の本格ラーメンは世代を超えて人気。カップルや親子連れも並ぶ行列店だ。少なめの麺や自家製アイスクリームなど、女性ファンにも◎。東京都世田谷区南烏山3-24-7　月〜金17:30〜22:30、土日11:30〜17:30　水・第4火曜定休。http://www.ivanramen.com/

ニューヨーク生まれの料理人、アイバン・オーキンさんは、今では東京・世田谷で人気ラーメン店を持つ異色のヒトだ。
26歳、ニューヨークの料理学校で学んでいる頃、一番好きな食べものがラーメンだった。住まいのあるブルックリンから、歩いて橋を渡りチャイナタウンの『New York Noodle Town』に日参した。
「ローストポーク・ワンタンメン！　そればっかり千回は食べたよ。全然あきなかった（笑）」
一流店だろうとカジュアルな店だろうと、美味いものは美味い、その逆もしかりと語るアイバンさんに、ニューヨークでのグルメについて聞いてみた。
「東京にはない味を楽しんで。フレンチやイタリアンもいいけれど、エスニック料理の文字通りの『濃さ』を、ぜひ！」
たとえばスパニッシュ。
「ドミニカ移民が暮らす街で食べるのが一番本格的。安いしね。できればクイーンズやブロンクスに足を伸ばしてほしいな」
あとメキシカンなら……、と盛り上がるアイバンさん。自身はユダヤ系移民がそのルーツ。とくれば、やっぱりユダヤ系の？
「デリ!!　これは日本にはほとんどない。手軽な値段で食べられるサンドウィッチやスープの美味さといったら、もう！　ボクが向こうに帰ったら、真っ先に行きたいのがデリだよ!!」
力説度倍増のおススメメニューは、パストラミやタン、コンビーフのサンドと、マッツォボール・スープ（酵母を入れず焼いたパン生地の団子入り）の組合わせ。ユダヤ人経営のデリなら、まず間違いなく食べられる。
デリに行くなら場所は、ロウワー・イーストだ。チャイナタウンから東、ハウストンstやオーチャードstのあたり。有名な『Katze Deli』もある。
「いまは（33丁目に）移ってしまった2nd Ave Deliも！」と興奮冷めやらぬアイバンさん。最後に、春から夏にニューヨークに旅行する人への、おすすめ散歩コースを聞いてみた。
「ロウワー・イーストから東へ。ブルックリン橋を渡る、歩いてね。最高の摩天楼を眺めたらブルックリンハイツのカフェに入ろう。大丈夫、安全。ボクが昔チャイナタウンまで歩いた道だからね！」
