寒い寒いとはいえ、日本ではだんだん春めいてきている昨今ですが、ここニュ−ヨークはまだまだ寒い日々が続いていますし、まさに「これからが本番！」と言ってもいいほどです。そんななか、どんなに外が摂氏マイナス５度以下になろうとも、完全防寒着に身を包み、他のカフェで買ったテイクアウトのコーヒーで暖をとりながら、長い列に並んでまでもニューヨーカーが待つ、“どうしても食べたいブランチ”のカフェが、この『Clinton St. Baking Company & Restaurant

（クリントン・ストリート・ベーキングカンパニー・アンド・レストラン）』です。2001年4月にオープンした当初は、Lowe East Sideのエリア、とくにこのクリントン・ストリートは“危険地区”とされていた頃から“ホットなカフェ＆レストラン・エリア”へと目まぐるしく変身を遂げた頃で、赤い外観のこのカフェは、いつもフレッシュな煮詰まっていない、おいしいフレンチローストのコーヒーと、典型的なアメリカン・キッチンの家庭料理、そしてパンやスコーン、マフィン、ケーキなどといったベーカリー類から人気の火がつき、 その味わい豊かで常にフレッシュなベーカリーや“名物”と言っても過言ではないパンケーキなどを狙って、朝食、ランチ、ブランチを食べるために、休日は２時間待ちも決して珍しくないほどの時間を費やし、ニューヨーカーを待たせているほどです。また、その味の確かさに、この時間帯だけでなく、新鮮な季節の素材とオーガニックの精肉を使用したゴージャスなディナー・メニューを目当てに、ディナータイムも混雑するようになりました。

朝、昼、夜と、それぞれメニューの内容は若干変わったり、時期によってメニュー内容は変わったりしますが、シティーサーチやタイムアウト誌などで2005年、2006年、2007年と連続して『ニューヨークで最高の朝食とブランチ』、『ニューヨークで一番おいしいパンケーキ』と評価を受けたパンケーキは、どの営業時間内でもメニューにありますので、是非トライしてみてください。バターと普通のメープルシロップではない特別なソースが、きっと病みつきに！
