ますます寒さが厳しくなってきたここニューヨークですが、外を歩くニューヨーカーを見ると、ほとんどの人が背中を丸めた状態で歩いてます。また、いくら姿勢に気をつけて歩いたとはいえ、寒い外を歩いていると、無意識のうちに全身に力を入れながら歩いているので、気付けば全身の筋肉が固くなって筋肉痛になっていることもしばしばです。この全身の凝り固まりを予防するためにも、定期的に運動をすることが一番良い方法、ということは分かっていても、ジムなどへ通うのが苦手な人も多いはず。そこでお薦めしたいのが、今回ここでご紹介する、いま注目のちょっと変わったエクササイズ、『NIA（ニア）』です。
この『ニア』とは、「ノン・インパクト・エアロビクス」の略で、ジョギングなどの激しい動きがないエクササイズです。ヨガをはじめ、テコンドーなど９種類の運動が組合わさったもので、このニアのエクササイズの様子を見ると、みんな好き勝手に踊っているように見えるのですが、なんと１時間ずっと動きっぱなし！　ここでご紹介するインストラクターのジェイソン先生が「地面をドラムして！　次はセクシーに！」とかける合図のとおりに全身を使ってそれをダンスで表現します。体だけでなく心も元気になるという秘密はここにあって、最初はちょっぴり恥ずかしくても、やっているうちに、どんどん楽しくなってくるから不思議です。こんな風に踊っているうちに体の疲れがほぐれ、血行がよくなるため、寒さで凝り固まった体にはもってこい！　またストレス発散も兼ねて参加する人も多いそう。 “ニューヨーカーといえばヨガ”、というイメージが強いニューヨークですが、最近では、ヨガをやっていた人がもう少し動きのある運動をしたいと、ニアを始めるケースが増えているそうです。みなさんも、是非、ニアにトライしてみてはいかがですか？
