このツアーは、ミッドタウンからソーホー(SOHO)までを地下鉄で行くことが、ポイント！　ニューヨークを知りつくしたツアーガイドから、まずは地下鉄の乗車券の買いかた、乗りかたを教えてもらいます。自分たちで地下鉄を乗るのはちょっと怖いというかたも、ここでガイドさんから地下鉄の乗りかたを教えてもらえるので、これで滞在中はニューヨーク観光も地下鉄で楽しめるはず。

最初に、話題の人気エリア、ロウアー・イースト・サイド(L.E.S)に到着すると、街並みを探索しながら、朝ごはんを食べに創業117年の老舗デリカッセン『KATZ’S』に。メグ・ライアン主演『恋人達の予感』にも登場したこの『KATZ’S』で、ホットドッグの朝ごはん。観光客で賑わっているかと思えば、朝なのでほとんどのお客さんは地元のニューヨーカー。店内にずらりと並んだ、お店に訪れたセレブたちの写真を眺めながら、日本とはひと味違うホットドッグが堪能できます。

『KATZ’S』での朝食を終えたあとは、いよいよ本格的な探索ツアーの始まりです。このツアーは、L.E.S.とSOHOを探索するのですが、特別に決まったルートはないので、その日のツアーガイドやツアー参加者によって、行く所も変わります。その日の参加者人数にもよりますが、なるべく参加者の興味に合わせて、ツアールートを提案します。今回は、日本で言う駄菓子屋さんのような、ポップで可愛いL.E.Sのお菓子屋さん『ECONOMY CANDY』へ。日本では見かけないお菓子がいっぱいで、ついつい買ってしまいたくなるほど。量り売りのキャンディバーでは、1パウンド（約454g）ぴったりになるように秤にかけて、子供のようにはしゃいでしまいます。このあとも、L.E.S.やSOHOらしい街並み、可愛いアクセサリーや雑貨を扱ったお店などを見て回り、気分はすっかりニューヨーカーに。ツアーガイドの楽しい話を聞きながら歩いていると、いつの間にかSOHOでも一番活気のあるエリアへ到着。このツアーは現地解散なので、このままショッピングへ行くのも良し、ガイドおすすめのギャラリーへ行くの良しという、気ままで楽しいでツアーです。自分たちだけでは行きづらい、どうやって行ったら良いのか分からないと人にはおすすめのソーホー探索ツアー、お散歩気分で、ぜひ参加してみてください。

＊ソーホーとは？
マンハッタン地区のSouth of Houston（ハウストン通り南側）を指し、英語の頭文字をとってSOHOと呼びます。昔、倉庫街であったこの地域の倉庫特有の広いスペース、高い天井を再利用してギャラリー、ショップが建ち並ぶ世界的に有名な観光名所となりました。
