いつの時代も女性なら誰しもが憧れる、きらめくジュエリーの数々。もし、自分のジェエリーが世界でたったひとつだけのものだとしたら、さらに嬉しいですよね。そんなオリジナル・ジュエリー作りを、親切丁寧に教えてくれるのが、世界中でその技術を習得してきたワールド・クラスのジュエリーデザイナー、デイビッド・ベンロロさんです。
デイビッド・ベンロロ・ジュエリー・デザイン・57th St. アカデミーは、ティファニーやハリーウィストンなどの高級宝石店が建ち並ぶ、５番街57丁目に位置し、実際に、デイビッド先生が日々デザインや加工しているスタジオを、教室として開放しています。デイビッド先生は20年以上に渡り、このニューヨークを拠点とし、ジュエリー業界の第一線で活躍されており、過去にはテイフィニーの専属デザイナーを務めるなど、ファイン・ジュエリーに対するその技術とセンスは確かなものです。
初心者向けの半日体験ジュエリークラスでは、製作するいくつかのサンプルキットの中から自分の作りたいものを選び、その場で、ストーン付きオリジナルリングを約4時間ほどで完成させます。半日とはいうものの、実際に棒状のシルバーから自分好みの厚さに調整していく作業から始まり、形を整え、リングを磨いてストーンをのせていく過程は本格的な作業です。なんといっても、魅力はクラスが少人数制であること。デイビッド先生が優しく丁寧に、ティファニー式の製作方法を組み合わせながら、指導してくれます。英語での指導が不安なかたもいるかもしれませんが、デイビッド先生は、日本に訪れたこともあり、多少の日本語なら理解できます。また、日本人アシスタントの真澄さんが、デイビッド先生に付き添って指導してくれるので、英語の不安な観光客のかたにも安心して受けることのできるクラス内容です。男性も大歓迎なので、記念日など恋人にオリジナルジュエリーを作ってプレゼントしたいというかたにも、おすすめのクラスです。
ワールド・クラスのジュエリーデザイナーに指導してもらいながら、オリジナル・ジュエリーを製作する機会はなかなかないもの。特に経験は必要ないので、お気軽にぜひトライしてみてください。
