解説
約9年間、ミュージカル｢ライオンキング｣の劇場として利用されていたニューアムステルダム劇場が、この秋、同じディズニー・オン・ブロードウェイの｢メリーポピンズ｣の劇場として再びオープン。チム・チム・チェリー、お砂糖ひとさじで、スーパーカリフラジリスティックエクスピアリドーシャスなど、おなじみのシャーマン兄弟の音楽に加えて、ミュージカル版のために用意された新ナンバーは、心躍らせる曲ばかり。メリーポピンズ、バートだけではなく、劇中ほとんど歌いっぱなしの幼いバンクス姉弟の歌声もすばらしい。ロンドンが舞台なのでブリティッシュ英語には少し抵抗を感じるかもしれないが、タップダンスやアンサンブルのシーンは英語がわからなくても、リズムとその踊りで観客を魅了してくれる。最大の見所は大きな劇場のステージの特徴を活かした奥行きのあるステージ構成に、手の凝った舞台装置と照明。特にメリーポピンズのフライングシーンやクライマックスには感動を覚えてしまうほど。ディズニー作品だけあり、心温まるストーリーで家族みんなで観て欲しい。

あらすじ
舞台は1910年のロンドン、仕事の虫で厳格な銀行家ジョージ・バンクスと、子育てより婦人参政権運動に熱心なウィニフレッド・バンクスには、2人の可愛い子供がいるにもかかわらず、育児はナニー(子守り)に任せきり。それに甘えて、バンクス家の長女ジェーンと弟のマイケルは悪戯し放題で、ナニーはすぐにやめてしまう状況。そんな時にどこからともなく、風に乗って現れたメリーポピンズが、新しくバンクス家のナニーとなる。何でも出てくるメリーの鞄や不思議な魔法に子供たちは、すぐにメリーが大好きに。メリーポピンズがやって来てから、バンクス家は笑顔が絶えない家庭になりかけていたもの、次々と起こる不思議な出来事に、ミスター・バンクスのイライラは隠しきれない。やがて、ある出来事をきっかけにバンクス家の家族の心はバラバラになってしまう
