解説
「Slava’s Snow Show」は、今や世界的にその名を知られるようになったスラバ・ボルーニョン(Slava Polunin)氏によって創り出された、出演者が全員ピエロ（道化師）という他ではなかなか見られない、セリフのないパントマイムのみの作品である。スラバ氏はロシアの小さな村に生まれ、森や川など大自然に囲まれた環境で昔から空想することが大好きだったという。そんな彼がテレビや映画を通して、パントマイムやピエロに出会ってからは、幼くして将来ピエロになることを決意し、現在に至っている。また、彼はエンターテイメント集団｢シルク・ドゥ・ソレイユ｣のステージのひとつ｢アレグリア｣の北米ツアーに参加していたことも有名で、この｢アレグリア｣の中では、｢Snow Show｣の演出が一部取り入れられた。今やこの｢Snow Show｣は、世界25カ国以上で公演され、また今もこのショーは、スラバ氏の新しいアイデアなどが常に取り入れられ、常に発展し続けている作品でもある。

あらすじ
ストーリーは特にないが、哀愁漂うYellowと お調子者のGreen Clownsの道化師たちが、全身を用いてパントマイムを繰り広げながら織りなす、前衛的かつ幻想的な作品。まさにオフ・ブロードウェイならではの作品だが、照明と効果音、また小道具の使い方が巧みで、観る物を魅了させる。明るい印象のピエロではなく、どちらかというと、少しひねくれものピエロ達だが、コミカルな演技が笑いを誘う。もちろん、彼らのパントマイムは一流で、特にYellowがトレンチコート相手に、ひとりで恋人同士を演じるシーンは傑作だ。また、通常インターミッション(Intermission)と呼ばれる幕間休憩中に、Green Clownsがひょこっとステージから顔を出し、ステージに観客を上げて追いかけあったり、逆にGreen Clowns達がステージを降りて、観客に水をかけたり、イタズラをしかけてくるので、1階前列の席のかたは、ある意味覚悟が必要？！かも知れない。もちろん、この作品の一番の見せ場はクライマックスのシーンで、｢Snow Show｣という名前の意味がこの演出にこめられているので、ぜひ劇場でそれを体験して欲しい。
