解説
ミュージカル『オズの魔法使い』の中で西の魔女エルファバは、ドロシーに水をかけられて死んでしまう。実はエルファバは、子供の頃から邪悪だったわけではないというグレゴリー・マグワイアの奇想天外な『オズの魔女記』のミュージカル版。オープン以来、主役が代わっても人気に衰えを見せない人気作品である。観劇前に『オズの魔法使い』のストーリーを把握して行かれると二倍楽しめるだろう。週末のチケット入手は困難を極めるので、平日に狙いを定めると良い。

あらすじ
‘舞台は、ドロシーに水をかけられ西の邪悪な魔女エルファバが死んでオズの市民達が大喜びしているところから始まる。そこへ東の良い魔女グリンダが現れ、生まれた時
から全身緑色の肌に覆われ周りから不気味に見られていたエルファバのことについて語り始める。幼い頃のエルファバは学校で足の不自由な妹ネッサローズの面倒を見ていた。エルファバのルームメイトがグリンダ。オズの大王は特別な能力が備わっているエルファバを利用しようとするが、秘密を知られ過ぎてしまいエルファバの命を狙う。大王は竜巻を起こしてネッサローズの上に家を降らせ、エルファバをおびき出す。ドロシーに水をかけられエルファバが溶けてしまった後に残った緑色のビンを見た大王は、実はエルファバは自分の子だったことを知る。ところが、エルファバは死んでなかったのだ‥‥。
