解説
1975年に、イギリスのパロディ・グループのモンティ・パイソンズが製作したナンセンスなパロディ映画『モンティ・パイソン・アンド・ホーリー・グレイル』を元に舞台化したのがこのミュージカル。2004年から2005年の一年間にオープンした作品に与えられるブロードウエイの栄誉『トニー賞』では14部門にノミネートされ最優秀新作ミュージカル賞を含む3部門を獲得し、今やディズニーの『ライオン・キング』を凌ぐ人気で最もチケット入手に困難を極める作品となった。

あらすじ
ヤギの鳴き声がして、トランペットが高らかに吹奏される。しかし、良く聞くと競馬場で馴染みのあるフレーズ‥‥、モンティ・パイソンらしいパロディで聴覚的にも最 初から笑わせてくれる。歴史学者が登場しアーサー王が活躍した「イングランド」に ついて説明されるが、次に現れた華やかな舞台は「フィンランド」（笑）。このようなナンセンスな笑いは「シンボル」と言った後で「シンバル」が鳴らされたりと全幕でみることが出来る。主人公であるアーサー王が馬に乗って華々しく登場と思いきや、馬の蹄の音はお供の者が鳴らす二つに割ったココナッツ（笑）。エクスキャリバーを手にしたアーサー王が、国を統一するために共に戦う仲間としての円卓の騎士達に出会い、彼らと共にキリストの聖杯、ホーリー・グレイルを探し求めて旅をする。これは、中世の英雄伝説を完全にパロディ化した冒険物語なのであります。
