世界の経済の中心であるマンハッタンでは、世界中からのVIPやエリートが集まり、忙しく仕事をしています。そんな、１分１秒も無駄にできないニューヨーカーですが、仕事のデキる紳士だからこそ、その時間を大切にするひとはたくさんいます。そのひとつとしてあげられるのが、紳士的なグルーミング。ここ『アート・オブ・シェイビング』は、そんな“違いの分かる”ニューヨークの紳士たちにこよなく愛されているグルーミング専門店なのです。

たとえ外の表通りが喧噪に紛れていても、店内は水を打ったような静寂に包まれています。しかし、決して敷居の高い、気取った雰囲気ではなく、スタッフはみんな落ちついた物腰の、親切なベテランばかり。ここでは、予め予約をすれば、旧式の床屋さんスタイルの椅子にリラックスして、完璧なシェイビング＆グルーミングのサービスを受けることができます。フルコースのセットのなかには、爪のキューティクル（甘皮処理）や爪磨きまではいったコースもあり、20ドル～50ドルのなかから選べるようになっています。ここのお客さんのほとんどは、お気に入りのお抱えシェイバーがいるので、予約時に指名する人がほとんどなのだそう。もっとも人気のあるサービスは、完全にリラックスした状態で、熱い蒸しタオルを顔にのせ（皮膚の毛穴を開けるため）、あごひげを柔らかくするプリシェーブ油をまんべんなく塗ったあと、ゆっくりとていねいにヒゲを剃っていくコース。また店内では、ここで使用される専門アイテムや、天然ハーブを配合したプロダクトの購入だけ、というのももちろん可能なので、是非お土産にしたいですね。
