ニューヨーク、ミッドタウンの人気観光名所であるロックフェラー・センターと、聖パトリックの大聖堂から目と鼻の先に位置する『Saks Fifth Avenue（サクス・フィフス・アベニュー）』。ロックフェラー・センターといえば、その周囲だけでなく、地下にまでにもジェイクルー、バナナリパブリック、アンソポロジーなどをはじめとする人気ブティックが入っていますが、このように『サクス・フィフス・アベニュー』の周辺だけでも、H&M、アバクロンビー＆フィッチ、アルマーニ・エクスチェンジなど、多くのブティックが軒を並べています。そのわりに、じつはカフェ＆レストランがほとんど無い、といっていいのがこのエリアの悲しいところ。ショッピングに疲れて、「ちょっと座って一息つきたいだけなのに……」と途方に暮れながらカフェ＆レストランを探してうろうろするよりも、まずは『サクス・フィフス・アベニュー』内に入ってしまうことをおすすめします！

『サクス・フィフス・アベニュー』は、1824年の創業以来、品ぞろえの品質の高さを保ち続ける姿勢が本物志向のニューヨーカーに愛され、その人気は現在も衰えることがありません。そんな『サクス・フィフス・アベニュー』内で味わえるのは、８階の『CAF遵ｯ SFA』（※2007年8月末現在改装中）のアメリカン・コンテポラリーなアフタヌーンティー。サラダ、サンドイッチといった軽食がいただけます。そして穴場中の穴場が、同じ8階のチョコレート・カフェ『CHARBONNEL ET WALKER』。このフロアーには、テーブル・デコレーションのインテリア小物やステーショナリーなどがメインに置かれていますが、８階に着いたとたん、あま～いチョコレートの香りに誘われ辿って行くと、そこに『CHARBONNEL ET WALKER』が。ガラスのショーケースには、１個から購入できるチョコレートやガナッシュがきっちりと並べられており、カフェはその向こう側に。普通席もありますが、おすすめはやっぱりカウンター。ここでは、日本の回転寿しのように、ベルトに乗って、スコーンやマフィン、ケーキのほか、自慢のチョコレート（２～３個）がお皿に乗って回ってくるのです。おいしくて、ついつい何皿も取ってしまいそう！
