これまでは、“ブルックリン”といっても、観光の対象に場所は無いに等しかったものですが、ここ数年のウイリアムズバーグやパークスロープ、ブルックリン・ハイツなどでのブティックやギャラリーなどの増加や、カフェやレストランをはじめとするナイトライフ・スポットの進出に伴い、ブルックリン人気は年々高まる一方です。今回は、そんな注目度のた高いブルックリンから、『New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge（ニューヨーク・マリオット・アット・ザ・ブルックリンブリッジ）』のご紹介です。
このホテルは、サウス・タワーとノース・タワーからなる建物で、もともと７階建てのホテルだったノース・タワーを改築し、1999年に『ニューヨーク・マリオット・アット・ザ・ブルックリンブリッジ』としてオープンしました。さらにその後の2006年 には、細長いビルのサウス・タワーが完成し、全658室（うち250室がベッド２台の部屋）の現在の形となりました。ここでのポイントは、マンハッタンのホテル客室に比べ、かなり広めで、なにより天井が高く、室内にいながらにしてゆとりの開放感があること。備え付けられたフラットスクリーンのTVでは、ノート型のコンピューターを持参のかたなら、半分をパソコンのモニターとして、半分をTVとして使用できるサービスが提供されています。もちろんインターネットは当然のハイスピード接続で、さらにうれしいのは、セー不ティー・ボックスはまるごとノート型のコンピューターが入る引き出しになっていること。いまや、仕事の出張でなくてもコンピューターを持ち歩く人の多い時代に、まさに、痒いところに手届くサービスといえます。
レストラン、バー、ロビー、ジム、チェックインカウンターなどのパブリックスペースは、本館とも呼ばれるノース・タワーにあり、ぐるりと廻る回廊作りで、サウス・タワーはすべて客室になっています。ギャラリー、カフェなどが点在するDUMBO地区も徒歩圏内。Brooklyn Bridgeを絶景を眺めながら歩いてマンハッタンのダウンタウンへ、というのも素敵な楽しみかたですね。
