ワールドシリーズ制覇にまさかの大敗　それでもゴジラのＮＹ物語は続く！

10月10日夜、松井秀喜選手の今シーズンが、予想されていたよりも少し早く終わってしまいました。プレイオフの１回戦で、エンジェルスを前に２勝３敗でまさかの敗退。残念ながら、ヤンキースのワールドシリーズ制覇は、今年もならなかったのです。

優勝リング獲得を３年目の大目標として掲げて来た松井選手にとっても、志し半ばでの挫折は、本当に悔しい結果でしょう。とくに、これまで大事な試合では必ず周囲の期待に応えて来た松井選手のバットから、今季最後の試合では、遂に快音は聞かれないままでした。「残念というしかないですね。僕が１本でも打てていれば多少は展開も変わったかもしれないのに……。ワールドシリーズまで戦うつもりだったので、不完全燃焼です」。

思えば、山あり谷ありの長いシーズンでした。一時は、プレイオフ進出は絶望とまで言われたヤンキースですが、９月に入っての奇跡的な追い上げで、見事に地区優勝。そんな波乱の１年の中で、今季にチーム内でもっとも安定した活躍を見せてきのが、ほかならぬ松井選手でした。打率は、アメリカに来て初めて３割を超え、一流打者の証明である100打点も３年連続でクリア。数字的にも、内容的にも、名門の主力として堂々と胸を張れる働きだったと言って良いでしょう。最後の最後にきての失速は、確かに残念でした。しかし、そんな失敗のあとでも、松井選手へのニューヨーカーからの絶大な支持はもちろん変わっていません。

今季で渡米時に結んだ３年契約が切れ、松井選手は新しい契約交渉に臨むことになります。他チームからの勧誘攻勢も予想されますが、しかし、これだけニューヨークに溶け込み、これだけ多くのニューヨーカーに愛されている松井選手を、ヤンキースが手放すはずがありません。今シーズン最後に味わった悔しさを、決して忘れずに。そして、これまでも挫折の度に成長して来た松井選手は、来シーズン、どれだけ大きくなってニューヨークの街に再び戻って来てくれるのでしょうか？

長く厳しい戦いはひとまず終わりました。でも、ゴジラのＮＹ物語は、まだまだ続いて行くのです！
