松井秀喜選手が、不運なケガで戦列を離れてから早２ヶ月……。思いもかけずチーム屈指の強打者を失ってしまったヤンキースですが、それでも、必死の戦いで優勝戦線に止まり続けています。残されたスターたちと、新たに台頭して来た若い選手たちは、一丸となってゴジラの穴を埋めようと頑張っているのです。

そんなヤンキースのなかで、実力、人気共に頂点にいて、チームのリーダーになっている存在が、今回紹介するアレックス・ロドリゲス選手です。『A・Rod（エー・ロッド）』」の愛称で知られるロドリゲスは、メジャーリーグでも最高級のスーパースター。まず特筆すべきはそのサラリーで、10年間で、なんと２億5200万ドル（約289億8000万円）というメジャー最高給を手にしています。それだけの大金を貰うわけですから、もちろん実力は文句なし。まさに怪物と呼べるほどの能力を持っており、若干30歳の若さで、すでに通算448本塁打（７月７日現在）。キャリアの後半には、メジャーリーグの多くの記録を破っていくことでしょう。
