祝・ゴジラ松井メジャーリーグ復帰！ついにこのときがやって来ました!!

８月に入ってからは、左手首の痛みがなかなかひかず、今シーズン中の復帰が危ぶまれたこともあった松井選手。しかし９月１日は、故障後初めてヤンキースタジアムでの打撃練習が実現し、そのフリーバッティングでは、いきなり６本ものサク越え弾を打ち込みファンを驚かせたのです。
「おお、マツイだ。マツイが打ってる……」。
この日に松井がフィールドに立つことを知らなかったファンも、快打が連発されるに連れて、次第にその存在に気付き始めました。バックネット裏で熱心に打撃練習を見守っていたアメリカ人男性に「松井の復帰が楽しみ？」と水を向けると、こんな答えが返って来ました。
「そりゃもちろん！　最初はＤＨでも良いしね。彼は例年春先の仕上がりが速いから、万全で出て来るなら今回もすぐに打ってくれるんじゃないの？」
外野席でも多くのファンが見つめる前で、松井の豪快な打球がスタンドに飛び込んで行きました。そのとき、「マツイだ！」という声がまたいくつか聴こえ、そして消えて行った。ホームラン制の打球を連発するにつれて、次第にみんなが松井の存在に気付いていったのです。

松井選手がフィールドから消えてもう４ヶ月、試合前の打撃練習で快打を飛ばし、ときに外野席に打ち込むなんて、昔だったら当たりまえでした。しかしかつてはなんでもなかったそんなことが、いまでは特別になりました。以前は気にも留めていなかったことが、幸せに感じるのです。

９月中旬に、予定どおりメジャーリーグ復帰を果たした松井選手。今後の活躍に、心から期待したいところです。まずは１日１日を大切に、決して無理はせず、あくまで大好きな野球を楽しみながら……、と願うばかり。そしてそれを見守る私たちも、松井選手の１打席１打席を噛み締めながら、一生懸命応援しましょう。

あまりに日常的になると、ついついつい忘れてしまいがちです。だけど、世界の首都ニューヨークで、母国のヒーローを応援できるというのは、とてつもなく幸福なことなのですから。
