春 から夏に掛けては、“靴目的のショッピング”といえば、これからの季節、女の子なら断然ミュールやサンダル、ウエッジソールが注目靴の的！　秋冬は、男女 問わず、ブーツやハードタイプのワークシューズが引っ張りだこですが、年間をとおして、季節を問わず持ち続けたいのはやっぱりスニーカーでしょう。メン ズ、レディースを問わず、旬で注目のスニーカーをニューヨークでゲットして、日本の友人に差を付けたいものです。ミッドタウンには人気のナイキタウン、 ソーホーにはアディダスとプーマが、それぞれ大型フラッグショップとして常に人気を集めていますが、いくらスニーカー・フリークだとはいえ、フラッグ ショップを一件ずつ回るのは時間と体力の無駄というもの……。そこでおすすめしたいのが、この通称“シューズ・ストリート”。ここは、ダウンタウン8th Street の、Broadwayから6th Avenue の間の数ブロックを指すこのエリアで、ディスコミュージックの全盛だった1970年代に、当時ホットなアイテムだったプラトフォーム・シューズを扱う店が 複数できたことをきっかけに、どんどん靴屋が増えたストリートです。ヒールの高いサンダルやウエッジも良いけれど、時にはやっぱり安くて遊び心のある靴に 心が動くのは男女共通です。大型フラッグショップにも負けない品ぞろえの豊富さはもちろんのこと、フラグショップに無い大きな魅力は、なんと いっても小さな個人ショップだからこそ見つけられる、「自分にとっての探していたあの一足＆サイズ」があること。日本では品薄になっているコンバースのレ ザーシリーズや、ナイキのリミテッドエディション、アディダスのスーパースターのラスタカラーなどなど、一件一件がまるで宝箱のようです。夏はやっぱりス ニーカーでキマリ！　ですね。
